True Ancient Venus Incense
True Ancient Venus Incense
The ancient tradition of magical incense as transmitted in the Three Books of Occult Philosophy by the legendary occultist Henry Cornelius Agrippa calls for us to compound exotic ingredients from the animal, mineral and vegetable kingdoms to create incense of totally focused intention.
Among Agrippa's incense recipes, he includes one for Venus, to be compounded from rare, exotic and precious raw ingredients:
For Venus take musk, ambergris, lignum aloes, red roses, and red coral, and "make them up with the brain of sparrows, and the blood of pigeons."
This incense is carefully prepared on the appropriate Day and Hour of Venus, as specified in the First Book of Occult Philosophy.
Per the instructions, the animal ingredients are blended with the powdered botanical and mineral ingredients and "incorporated after the manner of pills" - pressed together into small "pastilles".
The resulting pastilles are made after the manner of ancient incense.
These pastilles are not intended to be lit on fire or directly burned.
Instead, they should be placed on burning incense coals and allowed gradually emit their layers of intoxicating aroma as they slowly release their fragrance over 30 minutes: the perfect duration to consecrate a ritual object, perform a ceremony, make your devotions, or complete a magical working.
The redolent aroma fills the space and lingers for 16-24 hours.
