Magic Square of Venus Copper Talisman
Magic Square of Venus Copper Talisman
Derived from the legendary Three Books of Occult Philosophy by Henry Cornelius Agrippa, this Talisman is prepared on pure copper, acid etched at the appropriate Day and Hour of Venus.
The Magic Square is an essential magical tool for working with planetary energies:
- It's carried as a talisman to attract the blessings and favor of the energy it represents.
- It's a table that contains the magical numbers and proportions of the energy encoded into it.
- It's used by the practitioner to derive and draw sigils to summon and command spirits.
The tradition of Magic Squares was transmitted to Western Magic from Vedic, Arabic and Judaic sources. This rendering of the Magic Square of Venus captures the tradition of the Medieval and Renaissance periods, written in Western numerals.
Mathematics of the Magic Square of Venus
The ancients ascribed four numbers as the "signatures" of the energy of Venus, equivalent to the values of the names of the angels and spirits that serve and transmit the energy:
7, 49, 175, and 1225.
Each of these numbers is encoded into the Magic Square of Venus:
- There are 7 rows, and 7 columns
- The grid contains a total of 49 squares
- The numbers of each row, column, or diagonal equal 175
- The total of all the numbers in the table is 1225
Creating Sigils on the Magic Square
Sigils are created on the Magic Square by converting the name of the spirit or person to be invoked or focused upon into Hebrew letters. Once converted, the gematria value of each letter is noted. The sigil is drawn by connecting the values in order. For values over 49 (the highest number on the grid), the last digit is removed.
For example:
VENUS in Hebrew is NOGA: Nun, Gimel, Heh
Nun is equal to 50, which is larger than 49, so it will be symbolized by 5.
Gimel is equal to 3.
Heh is equal to 5.
So to create the sigil of Venus on the magic square, the practitioner will use their finger (often with oil or another ritual substance) to trace from the 5 to the 3 to the 5 while invoking Nogah with the appropriate intention and faith, and offering incense and libations.
Talismans come in the lustrous "Classic" copper finish, but may be customized with the rich and handsome patina of the Antiqued finish, the dark inverted "Blacked Out" finish, or breathtaking blue-green Verdigris finish.
